Media types and scan states

The Library accepts images, video and documents. Every upload is scanned for malware, and the scan result decides whether the file can be shown and used.

Kind Types How it displays
Images GIF, JPEG, PNG, SVG, WebP Inline in messages and content; the media panel shows the image and its width and height.
Video MP4, WebM A video player in content and in the media panel.
Documents PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), Excel (XLS, XLSX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), Pages, Numbers, Keynote, OpenDocument text, spreadsheet and presentation (ODT, ODS, ODP), RTF, TXT, CSV A PDF previews in the panel; other documents show a blank tile and open in a new tab.

The file picker only offers these types, and a file of another type dropped onto the upload area is ignored.

State Meaning What you can do
Scanning The file has uploaded and is being checked. The panel shows only this field and refreshes every few seconds. Wait. An image you uploaded a moment ago shows a local preview meanwhile.
Clean The scan passed. The file has a public address and displays everywhere. Insert it, open it, use it.
Infected The scanner found malware. The panel shows Potential malware or viruses detected. This media will not display and cannot be used. Archive the item and upload a clean file.
Error The scan could not complete. The file does not display. Upload the file again.
Field Meaning
Content Type The file’s type, for example image/png.
Upload Filename The name of the file you uploaded. The item’s title starts as the same name.
Malware Scan One of the states above.
Width, height Pixel size, images only.

Media uploaded from the Media view belongs to the Library and is offered under From Library everywhere. Media uploaded from a message or content editor’s Local tab belongs to that message or content and is listed on its Local tab. The Media view groups Library media by Journey moment where a moment is set.
