Enrollment, step and delivery statuses

Activity shows status at three levels. An enrollment is one person’s run through a flow; a step is one message in it; a delivery is that message reaching one recipient on one channel. Each level has its own statuses, and a parent’s status is read from its children: a step is Complete once every delivery has sent, an enrollment once every step is complete.

Status Meaning Leaves when
Paused Created in Verify Mode. Every step is Draft and nothing sends. Listed in Needs Review with a Verify button. You Unpause messages or Verify selected enrollments, or a step is scheduled from its page. The enrollment becomes Pending. Archive stops and removes it instead.
Pending Live. Steps are scheduled and send on their dates. Every step has sent, or an admin selects Stop.
Complete Every step has finished, or the enrollment was stopped. Steps still to send were cancelled. Final.

The Progress column counts complete steps over the total and turns red when any delivery bounced or was invalid (This enrollment has bounced messages, …invalid messages, or both).

Status Meaning
Draft Held without a date, awaiting verification or scheduling. Schedule on the step page moves it on.
Scheduled Will send when due. Pause on the step page returns it to Draft.
Sending At least one delivery is being sent right now.
Complete Every delivery has sent. Red with the tooltip Completed with bounces when one of them bounced.
Error The step failed and will not be sent.

A step in a campaign enrollment shows the same statuses, with a state button that reads Draft, Manual (draft, held) or Automated (scheduled).

Status Meaning
Draft Not scheduled.
Scheduled Will send at the scheduled time.
Paused Held.
Sending Being sent.
Delivered Reached the recipient.
Clicked Delivered, and the recipient opened a link in it.
Actioned Delivered, and the recipient completed its action (acknowledged it or submitted its form).
Bounced Could not be sent. The step page shows This message bounced when sending with a Resend button; a bounce notice appears in Notices.
Bounced* Bounced and then resent. The resend is a new delivery; a delivery can be resent once.
Invalid Could not be attempted, for example because the recipient had no address on that channel.

The Actions view shows only deliveries that asked for something, with a status that ignores everything but the ask: Unactioned (delivered, not done), Clicked (a link was opened but the action is not done) or Actioned. Informational messages, reminders and test deliveries have no action and do not appear.
