Post to a channel

Some messages are for everyone: “Please welcome Priya, who starts in Sales today.” A Post to Channel step posts once to a public Slack channel on the enrolled employee’s behalf, so the whole team hears about the moment.

  • Slack is connected and Post to Channel is enabled for your workspace. If the row is greyed in the Add Step dialog, contact Pyn support.
  • The sender is a member of the channel. Pyn Bot has to be invited to a channel before it can post there (/invite @Pyn in Slack); a personal sender has to have joined it.
  1. In Pyn, open Flows in the left navigation, select Automations, then the automation.

  2. Select Add a step, then Post to Channel under Communication.

  3. Under Schedule, choose the day and time. A team announcement usually goes on the day of at a time when the team is online, so choose the workspace time zone rather than the recipient’s.

  4. Under From, choose Pyn Bot or a personal Slack sender. The To list is the channels that sender can see.

  5. Under To, choose the channel. If the list reads No results, the sender is in no channel Pyn has synced; invite it to one and wait for the hourly refresh.

  6. Write the post. Select Insert widget, then Mention Principal to insert an @Principal pill that becomes a real Slack mention of the employee when it posts.

  7. Select Preview, then Send a test to yourself: the test comes to you as a direct message rather than to the channel. Select Publish on the automation.

The step card shows the channel name with a #. Each time an employee reaches the step, one post appears in the channel from the sender you chose, with the employee mentioned. Under Messages the delivery’s recipient is the channel. Reminders and escalations are not offered on a channel post, because anyone in the channel can act on it.
